After two years of construction but more than two decades of advocacy, traffic is finally flowing across a long-awaited highway overpass and interchange in the south end of Airdrie.
Until Friday, the only other two roads connecting Airdrie on the east and west sides of the highway were Yankee Valley Boulevard in the south and Veteran’s Boulevard on the north end of the city. According to Brown, the project faced various hurdles over the years, including high inflation and supply chain issues during the pandemic.
“There’s been significant growth in the area and because of the nature of our city, with the train tracks and only two other overpasses…there were significant challenges,” she said. “This project is long overdue and definitely needed.”
