The Hill Times
Gone are the days where the mantra 'violence is not the answer” meant something. Another saying I grew up with was: “women and children first.” This one seems to hold true, but not when feeding them or ensuring their safety—only when killing them. Women and children first. The state of the world today is not far removed from the Republic of Gilead in Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale. Headlines of violence against women and children have spread globally, much like a pandemic.
This generation has come out of a pandemic where they were isolated, only to step into multiple wars now playing out on their social media feeds and television screens. It’s a different world for young people today, but we must prevent them from becoming desensitized.
