Edquilang was inspired to make the new device by University of Houston Associate Professor Jeff Feng, co-director of UH’s Industrial Design program. It was Feng who first heard of a patient who had lost her fingers due to frostbite and needed a prosthesis that was both effective and affordable. Under Feng's guidance, he designed and tested 60 prototypes over the course of two weeks before coming up with a final design that was more robust, simpler to configure and assemble, and had better functionality. He called that model Lunet after the concept that the device orbits around the user’s joints like a moon.
