What's going to happen when Galen Weston goes to Ottawa? A lot of political theatre according to Sylvain Charlebois.
HALIFAX, N.S. — Later this week, the Chief Executive Officers of Canada’s major grocery chains will be in Ottawa to testify before the Standing Committee on Agriculture. And Professor Sylvain Charlebois says it is little more than political theatre. The head of the Agrifood Analytics Lab at Dalhousie says he spoke with that same committee and he says he didn’t feel they really wanted answers.
They're looking at shelter and necessity of life as well. And so, they have to pay more for both right now all at the same time. So that's why I think I think a lot of people out there are scared and that fear comes up on social media. And I try to actually balance the debate as much as on the one side, I actually think that Canadians are well served. On the other hand, we have some issues. I mean, look at the bread price fixing scandal. The investigation is still ongoing.
