Nearly 200 million Americans had caught Covid-19 before the latest surge, some multiple times. Why are others seemingly immune to the virus?
Covid-19 researchers are studying factors that keep some people from getting infected even if they are around others.Charley Ding spent weeks early in the pandemic intubating patients. The 42-year-old anesthesiologist in South Barrington, Ill., said he has since watched most of the doctors and nurses he works with get infected at some point.
But he has never gotten Covid-19, he said. “It’s probably a combination of being careful, maybe being blessed with a good immune system,” he said. “But also just luck.”
