Most importantly, however, they feature illustrations by Alan Lee, whose conceptual design work on Peter Jackson’sfilms helped establish the visual style of J.R.R. Tolkien’s world on the big screen. His work onwon him an Oscar in 2004 for Best Art Direction. Lee has contributed a preface to The Folio Society’s edition of these books and has hand-signed each of the 1,000 sets produced for this limited-edition run.
