Nedra Glover Tawwab, a therapist, has been using social media to help a wider audience understand and manage their own family issues. Through her Instagram posts, she identifies unhealthy patterns within relationships and offers tools from the therapy space to manage toxic behavior.
When Nedra Glover Tawwab was growing up in Detroit, she would come home from school and watch The Oprah Winfrey Show. ‘Oprah was the first person on TV that I saw talk about issues, from addiction to teen dating to co-dependency to violence,’ she remembers. ‘At the time, I was going through some things within my own family and watching her talk about that was really helpful – it was like my therapy.
’ Now a therapist herself, Glover Tawwab has spent the past 15 years running her own practice in North Carolina, where she specialises in family dysfunction.
