By now, everyone familiar with the Spurs’ place in the NBA hierarchy realizes that losing games isn’t a bad thing for the team’s long-term future. Then a pair of Malik Monk free throws, a Jakob Poeltl turnover and a Fox 3-pointer, and it was an eight-point deficit again.
The Spurs had not been overly turnover prone lately entering Wednesday, committing 13.6 per game over their previous 10.The worst stretch came in the middle of the third quarter, when three straight turnovers led to three straight fast break buckets, allowing Sacramento to extend its lead to 12.The Ohio State product hasn’t set the NBA aflame in his first pro season, adhering to a slow-and-steady line of progression.
