Something needs to change, otherwise if we continue to treat the migrants as we have, then we must take down the Statue of Liberty.
The situation with the migrants is tragic. We are placed in a difficult humanitarian crisis. They are desperate to flee their homes to protect their families from unbelievable atrocities, while risking their lives. Although the majority of our country is compassionate and wants to help, we cannot financially afford to support and supply financial assistance to all that are in need.
The answers are not easy, but we cannot ignore their plight. Why not have the churches, synagogues, temples, mosques, etc. sponsor migrant families? They would be entirely responsible for the families, including housing, food, medical and dental needs, etc. The U.S. government would not be responsible for anything financial, but would allow them to legally work. The sponsors give the migrants a hand-up ... not a hand-out.
Also, if deserving, we would give them a chance to become productive citizens in a timely manner, not over seven years!
