The Inflation Reduction Act is the biggest ever investment to tackle climate change. But there are signs that it could reinforce existing environmental inequalities.

"We are sitting right now with a lot of contradictions. While [the bill] does designate some funding for disadvantaged communities, it's also subsidizing fossil fuels," says Juan Jhong-Chung, the climate director at the Michigan Environmental Justice Coalition."It feels like what the bill is giving with one hand, it's taking with the other."

"It feels like we're being sacrificed, like we're being left behind,"Jhong-Chung says ."It doesn't feel good that this is the best we can get." The White House estimates that the law includes over $60 billion in spending on so-called environmental justice.
