Conditions on the PNE grounds remained bearable for workers setting up Monday, but city officials opened cooling centres elsewhere to help residents beat the heat.
“Extreme weather seems to be more and more common these days, I think people are also much better educated as to how to prepare for whatever the extreme weather is,” Ballance said.
Some areas of the province, however, set records over the weekend, with temperatures hitting 37.8C in Hope and 35.2C in Agassiz.
