This team is built around a core of Brady Tkachuk, Tim Stutzle, Josh Norris, Shane Pinto, Drake Batherson, Thomas Chabot and Jake Sanderson.

Norris missed most of the season after injuring a shoulder in October. He tried to come back in January before a decision was made to have surgery, but he should be ready for training camp in September.

“As a team, I thought we made a lot of progress this year,” Tkachuk told the Got Y’er Back podcast with TSN’s Ryan Rishaug and Pierre LeBrun on Wednesday. “Being in the race up until three games ago, people forget what our objective and goal was. While we know there will be new owners of the Senators by the time the puck is dropped in October, general manager Pierre Dorion, head coach D.J. Smith and the hockey operations staff will operate with a business-as-usual approach and an eye towards helping this club get to the playoffs in 2024.

It just didn’t work out and it’s believed both sides have decided it’s time to move on, so Talbot will test unrestricted free agency. His issues were compounded by the fact the Senators lost netminder Anton Forsberg to ligament tears in both knees.
