aims to enhance the operation of the criminal justice system and address the legitimate concerns of American Indian and Alaska Native communities regarding missing and murdered people – particularly missing and murdered women and girls.
The important work of the Presidential Task Force on Missing and Murdered American Indian and Alaska Natives continues. The Task Force, designated Operation Lady Justice, will press forward with its mandate to review Indian Country cold cases, strengthen law enforcement protocols, and work with tribes to improve investigations, information sharing and a more seamless response to missing persons investigations.
The Task Force must also take appropriate precautions to protect the health and safety of its members and all those interfacing with it, following the latest CDC and OMB guidance to protect public health and prevent the further spread of COVID-19. In early March, the Task Force announced a series of field consultations and listening sessions to occur across the United States. In light of guidance to prevent the further spread of COVID-19, some sessions will have to be rescheduled.
