Like Babylon 5, The Orville benefits from sharing actors and directors with Star Trek, and it can continue this with a Jonathan Frakes cameo.

If The Orville does get a season 4, it could finally fix a missed casting opportunity for one particular Star Trek actor. Seth MacFarlane's homage to 90s Star Trek has had several actors from the franchise both in front and behind the camera across its three seasons.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY MacFarlane's fondness for Star Trek isn't confined to The Orville, however, as he cast Patrick Stewart in a recurring role as Stan Smith's boss in American Dad! and featured regular Star Trek parodies in Family Guy. However, one Star Trek actor involved with The Orville who wants to feature on-screen hasn't had his wish granted. Jonathan Frakes, who's best known for playing Commander William T.

The fate of The Orville is still unknown, but there will always be a need for alien characters in the sci-fi show. As Jonathan Frakes has an existing relationship with the show, he would be an ideal choice to play an alien in season 4. Presumably, Frakes' absence from The Orville season 3 was due to the delays in production caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, and Frakes' own commitments to Star Trek: Picard season 3.

Babylon 5's Bruce Boxleitner Stole Jonathan Frakes' Orville Dream Babylon 5's Bruce Boxleitner played Union President Alcuzan in three episodes of The Orville season 3, and also narrated the audiobook adaptation of The Orville's missing episode. Boxleitner's distinctive voice was recognizable under the heavy prosthetics he wore for the role.

Thankfully, Bruce Boxleitner beating Jonathan Frakes to the role of an alien in The Orville didn't reignite the rivalry between Babylon 5 and Star Trek from the 1990s. Debates raged on early internet message boards and among friends and families that Babylon 5 ripped off Star Trek or vice versa during the 1990s. It's more realistic to suggest that both shows fed into each other, improving the writing as a result.
