Amazon Studios' new series, 'The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power', delves into the Second Age of Middle-earth, showcasing Sauron's rise to power and the creation of the titular rings. Thousands of years before the events of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, the series explores the alliance between Elves, men, and Dwarves against the growing darkness.
"One Ring to rule them all" became a tagline that swept the globe thanks to the success of Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy — but now, it might be difficult to remember that adapting J. R. R. Tolkien's beloved fantasy novel series once seemed like an impossible task. The Lord of the Rings is a dense work of fiction, and Tolkien poured extensive detail into the world-building that made Middle-earth so compelling.
Sauron uses lies and deceit to accomplish his goals. Appearing as the human Halbrand in Season 1, Sauron begins to create the titular rings with the help of Celebrimbor . However, after Galadriel discovers his true identity, he must take on a new form for Season 2. Disguising himself as Annatar, Lord of Gifts, Sauron convinces Celebrimbor to forge more Rings of Power. These rings grant their bearers extraordinary powers, but they are all cast under the influence of the One Ring.
Nenya as good as chooses Galadriel, which she gladly accepts. The ring soon improves her ability to see what is yet to come, but Elrond urges her not to trust it. Having fallen for Sauron's tricks as Halbrand, she is particularly susceptible to his influence, yet she trusts Nenya fully. Tolkien established that Galadriel swears to set the ring aside during the War of the Last Alliance so that she will not fall under Sauron's control, but that is still some time away.
The Nine Rings Corrupt the Kings of Men The"mortal men doomed to die" are the most susceptible to the rings' corruption. This is such a point of contention that Celebrimbor doesn't wish to make them, especially after hearing what happened to Durin III. However, Sauron shows off his manipulative power to get his way, first trying to make them without Celebrimbor's help and promising to search out the greatest heroes to give them to.
