The International Woolmark Prize finalists have been chosen from a pool of more than 300 applicants in 47 countries.
, 2019’s Woolmark womenswear winners, produced their collection with sustainable partners, designing clothes that didn’t skimp on style. “We’re just trying to show you can make a collection just as high fashion as anything out there in a way that’s zero-waste and non-harmful,” Michael said at the time.
It’s a “farm to fashion” process that will be familiar to some of the finalists and less so to others., “We’ve been looking forward to this competition based on the preservation aspect; for us, it lines up so naturally.” Likewise,, who often works in denim, said, “I’ve been super conscious about where I’m getting fabric from the beginning.”
To help the sustainability upstarts, Woolmark has teamed with Provenance, a blockchain-enabled app that helps brands gather and share key product information and stories, “bringing the supply chain to the shopper.” An overall winner and an innovation winner will receive approximately $135,000 and $65,000, respectively, at an awards ceremony in February 2020. Finalists’ collections will be produced and sold next fall via the International Woolmark Prize retail network, which includes Mytheresa.com and Matchesfashion.com, among others.
