Launching this week, TLDW (too long didn’t watch) turns long videos into digestible summaries to help people consume video content easier and faster. Mariel Vargas, founder and CEO of TLDW, wants to change how billions of people around the world watch and consume video content.

, “I actually really like this: TLDW outlines make YouTube videos so much more useful.” Vargas explained that users of the product love seeing an exact timestamp in a video where certain product or topic they are interested in is mentioned.

Vargas feels grateful to be one of the few Latinx women to successfully raise angel funding for her company. According to a, Latinx women-led startups have raised only 0.4 percent of more than $400 billion venture capital dollars invested in startups since 2009. Vargas is originally from the Dominican Republic and now lives in San Francisco.

Vargas shared, “I've yet to meet another Dominican founder . Our barrier to entry is higher—most of us don’t have access to ‘family and friends rounds.’ We have limited networks and have to take higher risks. I like to simplify it as a compound problem—the more Latinx women founders there are, the more we will be able to shift peoples’ ideas of what a founder is supposed to look like. The only way I know to change the pattern is to show that we can create products people want, too.

Vargas spends a lot of time helping and inspiring other Latinx women entrepreneurs. She advises, “Surround yourself with a supportive partner and community, ignore the statistics, talk to users, focus on creating a product people want and go for it! For everyone else: be an advocate for Latinx women founders.”
