Much-loved Preston gig venue The Ferret has received a vital cash boost from the council. The long-standing venue is one of nine supported by the Music Venue Trust, a charity dubbed 'The National Trust for Grassroots Music Venue'.
The fundraiser, which was launched in May 2022, will end on Thursday, March 30. The Ferret is a staple live music venue in the city and one of the only of its kind remaining in Lancashire and has hosted gigs by big names including Ed Sheeran, Alt-J and Royal Blood since it opened in 2006.Matt Fawbert, general manager of The Ferret, said: “The biggest worry now, is that the property is in the hands of a private landlord, and they have put the property up for sale.
Like The Ferret, 93% of GMVs are tenants with the typical operator only having 18 months left on their tenancy. Around £1.8m of the target total of £2.5m has already been secured and MVT aims to begin purchasing its first venues in April. "The Music Venue Trust has done a great job raising the profile of our struggling music venues across the UK. We felt that it was important that we did what we could to help support the Ferret’s campaign to raise the funds to purchase the building and stop it from being sold for commercial development.
