Here are five considerations as the Flames work to lock up their star centre and second-leading scorer from last season:This is Lindholm’s home-run contract. He’s turning 29 in December. He’s not far removed from a career-best 42-goal, 82-point outburst and a runner-up finish in Selke Trophy balloting in 2021-22. He’s really good and will want to be paid accordingly, especially since his current deal — with an annual cap-hit of $4.85 million US — has proven to be a big-time bargain.
And if so, why? Is he waiting to see that the atmosphere around the Saddledome will indeed be different after Darryl Sutter’s dismissal? Does he want to assess whether the Flames can legitimately contend?
