Blue Beetle Is Being Called The First DC Universe Character The upcoming film Blue Beetle is similarly in an odd position. The movie was developed before Gunn and Safran became co-CEOs and was, therefore, part of the old DCEU - yet the director, Angel Manuel Soto, voiced his belief that the film is part of Gunn’s DCU. James Gunn later confirmed that while Xolo Maridueña’s Jaime Reyes will join his DCU, the movie Blue Beetle is not part of the new universe.
There is evidence that Gal Gadot may play Wonder Woman in the DCU. James Gunn has stated that he has met with Gadot, who is enthusiastic about continuing to play Diana. Despite voicing gratitude for new acting opportunities after Wonder Woman 3’s cancelation, Gadot has also teased her return as Wonder Woman in the DCU. Keeping Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman is a far better choice than recasting her, but her DCEU appearances will be rendered non-canon to the DCU.
