A record number of college football players switching teams after a tumultuous off-season filled with coaching changes is presenting an unexpected challenge ahead of training camp

Few of the changes to rock college football in recent years have had such a direct on-the-field impact as the rule changes that made it easier for players to switch schools without penalty. That climaxed this year in a wild offseason that saw so many players in the sport’s top division looking for new homes that even the coaches who welcomed them are confused about how good their teams are.

“In fall camp, it won’t just be about teaching X’s and O’s, like it always is,” Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin said this week. “With all these portal guys, especially the young ones, we have a lot of work to do to get them into our systems, not just offense, defense, special teams, but cultural-wise.”
