A Nottinghamshire Christmas fan has shared why she is keeping her impressive Christmas lights despite the cost of higher electricity bills. Claudine Whiteside, 36, and her family have decorated their home for seven years because it brings a "smile on people's faces" when they walk by.

She said: "I used to be an exchange student in America, and when I moved we just shipped some of the craziest decorations because they were very cheap. And then we just started to build up every year.
"We thought it just inspired and cheered up people, especially with the cost of living at the moment. Everyone just smiles when they pass by and it just makes it all worth it." "We said that this year, rather than worrying about the electricity costs, we will just give each other a small present to compensate for that. It makes such a difference to see everybody getting ready for the festive season. We drive around in the evening sometimes, and just look at the houses with our little son."
The rising cost of electric bills does not seem to bother her either. She added: "It is all LED lights, so they do not consume much. I have not noticed a big difference anyway.
