has ditched the beauty of the built-in big screen to keep prices low, instead, offering up a tablet stand for you to use either an iPhone or iPad. Yep, this bike is, for now at any rate, iOS only. Android users feel free to skip ahead.
Unusually for fitness equipment, the Apex bike is available in navy, mist, sand or black, so you can blend it into your interiors. It’s an attractive design with a standard exercise bike footprint, albeit without the screen and mounting bracket. It’s fully adjustable and pedals are Shimano 50/50s so you can clip in or just wear trainers. There’s holsters for two small dumbbells, but they cost £25 extra, which is a pity, given Argos sell a complete set for £24.
To take a class you need to connect the bike to the Apex Rides app . This is all straightforward, and the app is bright, fresh and easy to navigate. Class options are easy to browse, your profile has all the usual statistic for you to peruse, and there’s a leader board if you need extra competition. No live classes, but they’re also on the horizon.
We like the use of Apex Points, which are based on your power output and biometrics. This means that regardless of your age or ability, you can still compete on the leader boards based on individual effort, so being superhuman has competitive advantage.
