Expenses included £714 for a shredder
Nearly £2 million of taxpayer's money was spent on Northamptonshire's seven MPs in 2021 and 2022, according to parliamentary data. Amongst these costs included more than £1,100 for a new iPad for one MP, £400 on stationery for another, and £714 for a shredder.
Northants Live reviewed the latest complete data to see which of Northamptonshire's seven MPs, all of whom are members of the Conservative Party, cost the taxpayer the most. Here are the results in ascending order: Mr Ellis collected £18,268.25 in expenses to pay for the rent on his London flat, alongside £620.67 to pay for his council tax. The public also paid for the £3,000 rent for his constituency office in Northampton town centre.
Mr Heaton-Harris also used £1,125 of public money to buy an iPad in March 2022, alongside £1,965.60 for phones, phone insurance and keyboards. He also claimed back £79.98 for his subscription to the Spectator magazine. The taxpayer also paid £267.60 for Dame Andrea's parliamentary-headed paper, in addition to £281.44 for her subscription to the local newspaper. £119.40 was claimed to pay for her postal costs, on top of £300 on advertising for her local advice surgery.
Mr Pursglove used £22,744 of public money on his rent for his Lambeth property in that time, which ran up an additional council tax claim of £1,326.33. He was actually forced to return £838 of the public's money because he overstepped the accommodation budget set for MPs. The tax payer fronted a £269.50 fee to pay for Mr Bone's partner, Jeanette Sweeney, to visit London four times in 2021 and 2022. This is on top of £3,605.67 for Mr Bone's own travel, including £785.00 in congestion charges and £25 for a taxi in September 2021.
