37% of Americans wished they had worked longer before retiring, according to a recent poll of 1,764 Americans over the age of 50.
The survey was conducted by economists Abigail Hurwitz and Olivia Mitchell through the University of Michigan’s ongoing Health and Retirement Survey.Of those surveyed, 57% wished they had saved more for retirement during their working years.About 40% of those polled regretted not buying long-term-care insurance to pay for a nursing home or something similar.
Some 33% of those surveyed regretted not investing in a product that would produce a guaranteed income for life.And in fifth place, 23% of older Americans wished they had waited longer to claim Social Security.
