Every year, it’s an annual tradition to see various floats and balloons glide through New York City during theHowever, this year, all 16 helium filled balloons may be grounded due to excessive sustained winds that are predicted to exceed 22 miles per hour, with gusts expected to exceed 39 miles per hour. In 1998, the city instituted new policies that balloons may not be flown with winds over 23 miles per hour and gusts of over 34 miles per hour,The last time the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade balloons were grounded due to weather was all the way back in 1971.
