Declaring for the 2023 NFL draft was tempting. But after mulling it over, receiver Jordan Whittington decided returning to Texas for a fifth and final season was the right call.
Texas receiver Jordan Whittington has flashed a lot of potential in his time in Austin but has struggled to stay on the field.AUSTIN – Obviously, Jordan Whittington didn’t plan on spending five years at Texas. That’s not the goal for any NFL aspirant, and especially not someone like the former five-star All-American from Cuero.
“I got a lot of mixed answers,” said Whittington, who played a full 13-game slate for the first time last season. “There were a lot of different directions that people were leading me on. I ultimately had to sit down and ask myself if I was my son, what would I do. And that’s how I ultimately came up with the answer.”
The 6-foot-1, 205-pound wideout is coming off a strong 2022 campaign. Whittington finished second on the team in receiving yards and third in receptions . He dropped just three passes on 72 targets to finish first in drop percentage among Longhorns and 11th among Big 12 wideouts with at least 40 targets, per Pro Football Focus. The hard-nosed slot receiver also finished with the the ninth-best pass blocking grade among Power Five wideouts.
