Washington State’s offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle is “best friends” with Tech offensive coordinator Zach Kittley, who hired Arbuckle twice during his coaching career, once at Houston Baptist and again at Western Kentucky.“The fun part for me is, with Ben man, we’re best friends,” Kittley said. “We talk on the phone multiple times a week. Haven’t talked to him this week, which that’ll probably be the case, but, yeah, it’s fun.
With Tech’s star running back Tahj Brooks listed as questionable for this weekend’s matchup, and the Red Raiders facing a team that prides itself on stopping the run, the Red Raiders will have to win through the air against a Washington State team that is missing its top nickelback for this weekend.The talk of the town was the Red Raider defensive performance against Abilene Christian after they allowed over 500 passing yards to an FCS opponent. The challenge will be even stiffer this weekend.
“Certainly they’ve got some very explosive receivers,” Tech defensive coordinator Tim DeRuyter said. “Williams and Hutson in particular, guys that last week, I think they both went over 100 yards. They’ve got a dynamic attack where they’re going to spread you out vertically, they’re going to use tempo, they’re going to try to get you to show your hand and dial in the best plays against a particular coverage zone.
