AUSTIN — The largest crowd ever assembled for a college baseball game at Disch-Falk Field was waiting to erupt Saturday night.
Texas starter Lucas Gordon also spent most of the evening playing with fire, placing runners aboard and in scoring position inning after inning only to escape unscathed. He paid for just one misplaced pitch over the heart of the plate, which second baseman Wade Elliott poked into center field for a game-tying RBI single in the fourth inning.
With the game tied at 1-1, the Longhorns reeled off six straight hits – five singles, one double – to seize a 4-1 lead over the Conference USA tournament champions.
