Texas State (7-5, 5-3 Sun Belt) will face North Texas (6-6, 3-5 AAC) in the SERVPRO First Responders Bowl in Dallas on Jan. 3.
SAN MARCOS – It’s been 30 years since Texas State and North Texas last faced each other but that changes this bowl season. Texas State will face North Texas in the SERVPRO First Responders Bowl in Dallas on Jan. 3 for the first meeting between the two programs since 1994. It’s a locational retread for the Bobcats after beating Rice in the First Responders Bowl last season, 45-21, but North Texas has the proximity advantage located just a 45-minute drive away from Gerald J. Ford Stadium .
Morris won it twice in 2018 and 2021, while Kinne won it as Morris’ successor his lone season with the Cardinals in 2022. The ties between the two staffs aren’t just familiar, they are familial. Texas State wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator Chad Morris is the father of North Texas’s starting quarterback, Chandler Morris.
