The real crux of the problem is Texas’ longstanding issues on third down. That’s been a common refrain for second-year coach Steve Sarkisian this year, particularly over these past three outings. Even worse, Texas’ average third-down distance during that three-game span is 8.37 yards. Basically, the Longhorns are constantly facing third-and-long, which has placed even more pressure on struggling redshirt freshman quarterback Quinn Ewers.
