A legislative package of historic property tax cuts is heading to Governor Greg Abbott’s desk after the Texas House of Representatives finally passed the proposal on Thursday.
Touted as the state’s largest tax cut in history, the $18 billion investment is largely built upon three facets: lowering the maximum school district compressed property
tax rate by 17 cents; increasing the homestead exemption to $100,000; and a 20% limit on annual appraisal increases on certain non-homestead buildings including businesses.
