Texas set to execute second death row inmate in one week

Arthur Brown Jr. was given a lethal injection for the June 1992 deaths of four people in a Houston home while he was part of a drug ring that transported rugs from Texas to Alabama. Brown had purchased drugs from Jose Tovar and his wife Rachel."What is happening here tonight isn’t justice," he said."It’s the murder of another innocent man.
Arthur Brown Jr. Brown Jr. is scheduled to receive a lethal injection Thursday evening at the state penitentiary in Huntsville for the drug-related killings of four people more than 30 years ago."It was an absolutely brutal mass murder. ... These families deserve justice," said Josh Reiss, chief of the Post-Conviction Writs Division with the Harris County District Attorney’s OfficeOne of Brown’s accomplices in the shootings, Marion Dudley, was executed in 2006.
His lawyers argued that their client is intellectually disabled and asked the U.S. Supreme Court to halt the planned execution, which will take place at the state penitentiary in Huntsville, Texas. They have previously argued that Brown's conviction was tainted by racial bias, alleging one of the jurors decided he was guilty because of his race. Brown is a Black man.
Gary Green, 51, received a lethal injection on Tuesday night at 7:07 p.m. in relation to the September 2009 killings of Lovetta Armstead, 32, as well as her 6-year-old daughter, Jazzmen Montgomery, at their Dallas home. Green stabbed Armstead more than two dozen times and Jazzmen was drowned in the bathtub.
