Pete Hansen improved to 10-1 with Wednesday’s victory over Oklahoma State in which he threw 72/3 scoreless innings.Texas took a big step in its quest to host an NCAA baseball tournament regional, beating Oklahoma State 4-0 in the opening game of the Big 12 tournament at Arlington’s Globe Life Field.
Tristan Stevens worked the final 11/3 innings without allowing a hit to earn his second save of the season and propel Texas to a victory over the only team that swept it this season. Hansen received some insurance runs in the seventh when outfielder Austin Todd worked a nine-pitch at-bat for a solo home run and Faltine drove in third basemen Skyler Messinger with his third single of the day.
“Trey did a nice job all day. Just a good approach there to get the RBI,” Pierce said. “And the swing Austin had, the great at-bat and then Madera left a breaking ball up and he just crushed that one. And then Silas with the insurance. But just a really clean game all the way around.”
