Gonzalez in a court filing said he believes that “the death penalty is unethical and should not be imposed on Mr. Ramirez” Nueces County District Attorney Mark A. Gonzalez last Thursday filed a motion to withdraw Ramirez’s death warrant and execution date. “The undersigned District Attorney for Nueces County has the firm belief that the death penalty is unethical and should not be imposed on Mr. Ramirez or any other person while the undersigned remains in office,” Gonzalez wrote in a court document.

Gonzalez said an assistant DA requested the execution date while “not aware of my desire in this matter and did not consult me prior to moving for an execution date.”blocked his executionRamirez is on death row for killing a Corpus Christi convenience store worker during a 2004 robbery. Ramirez stabbed the man, Pablo Castro, 29 times and robbed him of $1.25.
