New bill would ban four-day school weeks adopted by Crosby ISD, other Texas school districts
CROSBY ISD:Currently, the TEA only requires that districts meet the 75,600 minutes per school year operational threshold, according to the Texas Education Agency.
“They have some flexibility in terms of how they structure the school day/week,” Melissa Holmes, a spokesperson for TEA, previously told the Chronicle. Campbell authored the bill because of assertions that four-day school weeks have created struggles for families and have been detrimental to students’ learning, Campbell argued.. “It does not seem to improve student outcomes. In fact, it looks like from research that’s been done that it seems to have some negative effects on children.”“ a 600 percent increase in schools converting to the shortened schedule since 1999,” Campbell reported.
