Texas A&M safety Antonio Johnson awaits his NFL draft destiny
Safety Antonio Johnson, shown at the NFL combine in March, ended his Texas A&M career with a flourish, forcing a fumble in each of his last three games.COLLEGE STATION — Safety Antonio Johnson, fresh off a strong showing during Texas A&M’s annual pro day, glanced around the Aggies’ practice fields this spring, and a rush of memories roared back.
“Let me tell you something: He’s a competitor and tough,” A&M coach Jimbo Fisher said. “Not many safeties can play the second level, down in the box and physical, but then have the ball skills to play on the top end and in the third level.” The draft's first round is Thursday night, the second and third rounds are Friday night, and the fourth through seventh rounds crank up late Saturday morning.
“But you’ve also got to be able to tackle, and he loves the physicality of it. … He was not just a good player but a great player for us.”
