COLLEGE STATION — Texas A&M catcher Troy Claunch had just witnessed teammate Ryan Targac get hit on a first pitch breaking ball. So Claunch figured out what was coming next from Louisville reliever Michael Prosecky.Louisville and A&M both missed the NCAA Tournament last season. Now the Aggies are one win from making the College World Series, thanks in part to Claunch’s sound deduction.
A&M under first-year coach Jim Schlossnagle is hosting its first super regional since 2017. The Aggies five years ago defeated Davidson in the first two games to advance to the CWS for the first time since 2011. A&M is seeking its seventh trip to the CWS, and the Aggies haven’t won a game there since 1993 under then-coach Mark Johnson.
“That was a great game, and it’s unfortunate we had to lose,” Louisville coach Dan McDonnell said. “That’s the challenge of being the visitors, and playing in this great atmosphere that has.”
