COLLEGE STATION — Texas A&M’s slow start against Sam Houston was aggravated by a nearly three-hour lightning delay, giving the Aggies plenty of time to mull their early misadventures.
A&M and Sam Houston squeezed in the first half before lightning and then a downpour sent fans scurrying following the Aggie Band’s halftime performance. A&M’s two touchdowns in the first half came on explosive plays, heartening fans who’ve hoped for as much from one of the Southeastern Conference’s worst offenses last season. The Aggies’ first score of 2022 came on King’s 66-yard touchdown pass over the middle to Yulkeith Brown.
King beat out LSU transfer Max Johnson and five-star freshman Conner Weigman for the starting job in camp, and King played nearly the entire game on Saturday in trying to shake the rust from nearly a year off. He finished 20 of 31 for 364 yards with three touchdown passes and two interceptions.
