With a tentative COVID-19 safety agreement reached, teachers will be returning to Chicago Public Schools on Tuesday, and students will return in person on Wednesday.

“This has been a very unpleasant experience,” CTU President Jesse Sharkey late Monday. “The CTU felt like we were asking for a set of reasonable things – obviously as teachers who have been in buildings since the beginning of the school year.” Kozlov asked Mayor Lightfoot if there are any guarantees that rank-and-file teachers will remain on the job in person if they end up voting the proposal down.

“It’s not an agreement that had everything. It’s not a perfect agreement,” Sharkey said. “But it’s something that we can hold our heads up about – partly because it was so difficult to get.”
