Markets favour Tencent over Alibaba, although Jack Ma is well ahead in money matters. Tencent's app WeChat, though, gives it an overall edge. mak_robyn's view explains:

China's video-game and social network company Tencent on May 15 reported revenue in the three months to March of 85.5 billion yuan , an increase of 16% from the same period last year.

Earnings rose 17% year on year to 27.2 billion yuan. That compares with the average forecast of 19.4 billion yuan from analysts polled by Refinitiv. Separately, e-commerce company Alibaba on May 15 reported revenue in the three months to March of 93.4 billion yuan, an increase of 51% from the same period last year. Adjusted net profit, excluding share-based compensation and one-offs, rose 42% to 20 billion yuan.
