Police in Prince George’s County said Monday a teenage girl was fatally shot near DuVal High School.
Acting Deputy Chief Zachary O’Lare said the 16-year-old girl was walking on Palamar Drive shortly after school let out around 3:45 p.m. Monday when “there was a dispute between two groups.”Police said they didn’t know if the girl, who was a DuVal student, was involved with either of the quarreling groups.“This is a sad day in Prince George’s County.
Both DuVal High and neighboring Robert Goddard Middle School were placed on a brief lockdown after the shooting. Millard House II, the superintendent for Prince George’s County Public Schools, said the school system will have crisis counselors on campus “for as long as it takes to support students during this very difficult time.”
Mr. House added that school officials are expediting security enhancements that were planned for DuVal High and other PGCPS schools.
