Team P.E.I. speed skater William Lyons finished second in his race and 11th overall in the competition, possibly setting a provincial record in the 3000m short track speed skating on Saturday, Feb. 25.CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Here's what happened with Team P.E.I. athletes during day 8 of the 2023 Canada Winter Games on Saturday, Feb. 25:Tobias Cheeseman, Ajit Balasanduram, Will MacLean and Malcolm McIntyre competed for Team PEI. William Lyons, Zach O’Meara, Addison Bruce, and Anderson Arseneau raced for Team PEI. The team won the B-final for the second straight Canada Games and a 5th overall finish.Team P.E.I. had an incredible run to the bronze medal game. Saskatchewan got on the board first, before P.E.I.’s Callie Veld answered to tie the game. The game was back and forth, but Saskatchewan scored two more before halftime to take a 3-1 lead into the half. P.E.I.
P.E.I. came out firing in the third quarter of the bronze medal Ringette match vs. Saskatchewan with goals by Veld and Tori Jayne Chapman on the powerplay tied the game at 3. In overtime, P.E.I. had a couple of scoring chances, but Saskatchewan was able to pull it out 5-4. - Atlantic Briefs Desk
