You don’t have to jump the pond for a proper afternoon tea. While not unheard of in Houston, afternoon tea is still something of a discreet specialty here., the venerable downtown hotel, which is readying its launch of afternoon tea. Beginning on April 8, the hotel at 701 Texas, will begin weekend tea on Saturday and Sunday from noon to 2:30 p.m.
The three-course service will be presented on bone china in the mezzanine area of the hotel. Priced at $69 per person, the service will include a choice of tea with accompaniments such as Coronation Chicken in phyllo cups, dainty sandwiches , scones with clotted cream and house-made jam, petit four cakes, lemon tarts, and chocolate pots de crème.
“The Lancaster Afternoon Tea is a perfect option for Houstonians and visitors alike to enjoy our version of this favorite British tradition,” stated hotel general manager Pete Shim. “We timed the two-hour seatings to perfectly complement a matinee in the Theater District or a leisurely afternoon on the town.”restaurant has added new dishes to its weekend brunch menu including braised ribs Benedict, shrimp avocado salad, Croque Madame, Fruity Pebbles French toast, and huevos rancheros.
