The first UK TCL TVs to combine Quantum Dots with Roku’s OS, starting at just £320
Spurred on by the critical and commercial success of its previous RS520K and, especially, RP620K Roku TVs in the UK, TCL has now announced the launch of a new Roku TV range that aims to deliver enhanced picture performance courtesy of a Quantum Dot colour system.
The new RC630K series will consist of four screen sizes: 43 inch, 50 inch, 55 inch and 65 inch, priced at £319.99, £369.99, £419.99 and £699.99 respectively. Those 55-inch and 65-inch prices are especially aggressive by Quantum Dot standards, continuing a long-running affordability theme for Roku-powered TVs.
The combination of QLED picture quality, low pricing and famously easy to use and content-rich Roku smart system aren’t the RC630K’s only significant features, either. Particularly impressively for their money, for instance, they can handle all four of the main HDR formats: HDR10, HLG, Dolby Vision and HDR10+. Most TV brands by comparison only offer Dolby Vision or HDR10+, rather than both, even though there’s content out there that only supports one format or the other.
Being able to enjoy the best version of a source regardless of what HDR format that source is mastered in is a great consumer facing feature that I wish every TV brand would adopt as standard. There’s support for Dolby Audio too delivered through a speaker system that’s been developed in conjunction with Hi-Fi brand Onkyo, while the Roku smarts are partnered with Apple Airplay 2, and ‘works with’ implementations of Apple HomeKit, and the Apple Siri, Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa voice control systems.
