The romantic ballad features a booming snare drum and piano as she sings to her lover. The song opens with Swift singing about her and her partner leaving the Christmas lights up into January, followed by the line, "Have I known you 20 seconds or 20 years?" To chronicle the love story detailed in the song, the music video opens with a little girl unwrapping a snowglobe Christmas gift. Soon entering the world of the snowglobe, fans get to see Swift portray a love story with dancer-musician Christian Owens. The video narrates the couple's life at home, showing them embrace while laying on the couch, eating dinner, having a party with friends, etc., all the while Swift serenades her "lover" with the song on her guitar.
In the YouTube live stream, Swift described the video as being "aesthetically pleasing from a color standpoint." The concept of the snowglobe derived from a "You Are in Love" song lyric, a song off heralbum. The song lyric reads: "And so it goes, you two are dancing in a snowglobe, round and round."stadium tour last year. "Every single night I could see how expressive he was," she said.
