One of Canada’s largest street festivals is returning for the first time since the COVID pandemic began. Taste of the Danforth is returning to Toronto this summer.
. The GreekTown on the Danforth BIA said lack of road infrastructure and other pandemic-related projects posed an impediment, saying moving forward with the 2022 festival is “too great a risk of not being as successful as in the past.”
Now, CaféTO is a permanent program. But the city is supporting the festival in finding ways to make it a success, anyway. Expert planners have been engaged “to reimagine the festival in ways that work with the new permanent bike lanes and CaféTO patios,” a city spokesperson said.Vladimir Gambal, the owner of Vlad’s Bakery & Pastry near Pape and Danforth Avenues, told the Star that he’s “celebrating” the upcoming return.
