Robert “Bobby” Blount Jr., a longtime Northside Independent School District trustee and current board president, will receive an award for innovation this summer from the Texas Association of School Boards. Blount, a Northside trustee since 1999, also is president of the Texas Caucus of Black School Board Members and the Bexar County School Boards Coalition. The association announced Tuesday that he was selected for the 2024 James B.
Northside ISD to seek applicant to fill board vacancy “Those eligible for the award include individuals who have significantly influenced effective school district governance practices at the state or local level,” the association said. It noted that the selection committee “praised his ongoing commitment to public education and his work to improve the lives of the children in his community and beyond.” The award includes a $10,000 contribution to a school district of the recipient’s choice.
Security, teacher concerns are issues in Northside ISD board races Blount, who was reelected last year to represent single-member District 4 in the southwest corner of Northside, said there’s still work to do to expand student opportunities. “To really move the needle, it takes time and effort, so that’s why I continue to serve,” he said. The award will be presented at the association’s summer leadership institute in June.
