Judge Jesus Nevarez had a pattern of making inappropriate advances and unwanted comments about women, according to the public warning issued June 21.had a pattern of making inappropriate advances and unwanted comments about women, referring to them as “babe,” “baby” or “hon,” according to theThe commission ordered Nevarez undergo training on demeanor and sexual harassment. Nevarez attended two trainings on sexual harassment in his 11-year tenure as a judge, according to the public warning.

“What Judge Nevarez has come to understand is that perception is important,” Parmer said. “He needs to contemporize his communications and be more cognizant of the perceptions that those communications might make.”The commission found that Nevarez repeatedly texted his associate judge late at night and multiple days in a row without a response from her. In the messages, Nevarez told his associate judge he loved her, according to the notice.The associate judge resigned in August 2022.

Nevarez told the commission he has called women — including staff — “babe,” “babes,” “hon,” “baby” and “beautiful” for 40 years. He said he was never informed his actions were inappropriate. He also denied that his behavior rose to sexual harassment.that Nevarez made a “mea culpa” to the commission and admitted he should have “formalized” his language with the associate judge, whom he’d known before they became colleagues.

A family law attorney also reported Nevarez made unwanted advances toward her. She said Nevarez gave her his personal cellphone number, suggested she contact him and then messaged her on Facebook, according to the notice. Nevarez testified gives out his cellphone number for attorneys to ask him questions and said he wanted to mentor the woman.

Nevarez told the commission he has since told staff to call him “judge;” only speaks to attorneys in his judge’s chambers if there are multiple people present and leaves his office door open; tries not to call people by inappropriate names and hired men as his associate judge and court coordinator.Federal jury will hear Cowboys’ Jerry Jones suit against woman who says he is her father.
