From homemade tortillas to the smell of urine downtown, locals say these are San Antonio's most distinct smells.
The smells I most associate with San Antonio were the Lone Star Brewery, Big Red plant, and the very sweet odors of the Judson Candy Company. To me, the smell around the Big Red bottling plant was the smell of vanilla, and maybe cotton candy. The Lone Star Brewery smelled like rotten eggs — like sulfur. Therefore, when we drove by the brewery, we would always accuse each other with having let loose an especially odorous fart.

The smell of chlorine meant I was close and going to have fun. The bumper cars at Playland had this strange electrical/metallic smell — it smelled good to me. My father lived on the northside of Rainbow bakery, and in the early morning the smell of baking bread was fantastic. I think that's why I love bread today.
